Last Building Standing, Pulaski, Iowa

These are images that I took on a recent trip to my mom's hometown in Davis County, Iowa. It's in Amish country, so being there is like stepping back in time . . . eerie, in a way. I remember spending summers here as a kid with my great-grandparents. Unfortunately, very little is left of this tiny farming community.

Her eyes are beautiful!! Did you touch them up at all or are they just that striking! Gorgeous girl!

Thanks so much for your interest in my work. I brightened her eyes a little, but they really are that striking.

Hi Heather,
I am an amateur photographer based out of NWA. I stumbled upon your blog somehow. Question, I am in the process of upgrading my Photoshop and am trying to get some feedback from other photographers that take pictures primarily outside as well. What do you use if you don't mind me asking?

Keep up the good work!
Jill

Jill:

I use the latest version of Photoshop Elements (I'm not sure exactly what version that is). I try not to do a whole lot of post-production work on my images. I might crop an image a little or tinker with the color or contrast, but that's about it, so I'm not a Photoshop expert by any means. My goal is to take the best photographs I can on the front end so I don't end up being a graphic artist on the back end. Plus, my love is really black & white images, so I've started going back to film and the darkroom a lot.
